A short, easy walk to an iron age hillfort. If you park by the ‘schoolhouse’ then walk the few yards to the bridge over the river Laggan and go through the gate onto a rough track. This passes woodland and there are some dramatic views towards the hills particularly from the ramparts of the hill fort itself.
On the way there the track forks about half way. Take the left fork. The path on the right (which looks like the ‘main’ track) gets very muddy and boggy in places even in fairly dry weather.
It’s easier to climb to the top of the hill fort from the back – the track that leads to the hill fort peters out around the back of the mound but there’s a vague grassy track that takes you to the top.
It’s a short walk but if you are looking for a bit of history and great views then this delivers with minimal effort.
