- Circular (sort of!) walk: 7 miles

There is parking either side of the bridge just outside Muchelney. That is where the what3words address will take you and it is the start of the walk. However, Muchelney itself is well worth a visit with its ruined abbey (in the care of English Heritage) and the Priest’s House opposite the church which is National Trust (but also a private residence; opening hours are limited).
The walk itself exceeded my expectations. It follows the River Parrett for about three miles before looping around and returning on the opposite bank. You can cut the walk down to about four miles by missing out the loop south of Thorney Bridge if you prefer, although we enjoyed that section, especially for the evocatively named ‘Silent Mill’ where the route rejoins the river after a few hundred yards on the road that passes through Thorney Bridge.
Wide, open views over the Levels, massive skies, skylarks, Marsh Orchids and, if you’re lucky, maybe spot an otter. What’s not to like!
